Mrs. Yojana Vikas Gharat, the founder of the SMIT Foundation, is a passionate and resilient woman who has devoted over two decades to uplifting the poor and homeless. Inspired by the Missionaries of Charity in Kolkata, where she spent her formative years, Mrs. Gharat's unwavering dedication led to the establishment of the SMIT Foundation, currently headquartered in Thane. Her remarkable contributions have been recognized with numerous accolades at esteemed events across Maharashtra, celebrating the significant and positive changes she has brought to society.

Mrs. Gharat oversees the foundation alongside her talented daughters, Vrushali and Mayuri. Their mission is to create a support system that enables needy senior citizens to live respectable, fulfilling, and quality lives. They aim to bridge gaps through the contributions of changemakers, achieving comprehensive and empathetic well-being for all.

The foundation is also committed to building a brighter future for physically challenged, mentally unstable, morally collapsed, and differently-abled children who are abandoned, lost, or come from helpless families. By focusing on nutrition, hygiene, and skill development, the SMIT Foundation strives to make these children self-reliant and secure their futures.

Ensuring that all members are treated equally in a nurturing and friendly environment, the foundation is dedicated to fostering physical, mental, spiritual, and social well-being. With plans to expand their Thane facility, they aim to accommodate 3,000 deprived and disadvantaged individuals, continuing their mission of care and support.
